Pokemon - Black (J)

Introduction: This is the official Japanese version of Pokémon Black Version for the Nintendo DS. It is the first paired version of Generation V, set in the modern, industrialized Unova region. The game features fully animated, moving sprites for all Pokémon during battles, a significant visual upgrade from previous generations.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The player chooses one of three starters: the Grass-type Snivy, the Fire-type Tepig, or the Water-type Oshawott. The game maintains the Physical/Special split introduced in Generation IV. A key mechanical change is that until the main story is completed, the regional Pokédex contains only 156 brand-new Pokémon, with no species from previous generations appearing in the wild. The difficulty curve is considered moderate, with a notable spike in the later stages, particularly from the Elite Four and Champion.
