About This Game
Introduction: Pokémon Conquest is an official crossover title for the Nintendo DS, developed by Tecmo Koei and The Pokémon Company. It is not a ROM hack or bootleg. The game is set in the Ransei region, a land shaped like Arceus, and blends Pokémon with the tactical gameplay of the Nobunaga's Ambition series. The visual style uses detailed, painterly 2D sprites for characters and Pokémon on isometric battlefield maps.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The game begins with the player's Warlord character linking with an Eevee. You recruit other Warlords and their partner Pokémon by conquering the region's 17 kingdoms. Battles are turn-based tactical affairs on grid-based maps, focusing on positioning, type matchups, and each Pokémon's unique movement and attack range. There is no traditional starter choice, leveling, or Physical/Special split; a Pokémon's power is tied to its link percentage with its Warlord. The difficulty is strategic rather than a traditional RPG grind, making it unsuitable for a standard Nuzlocke challenge.
Key Features:
- Tactical Kingdom Conquest: The core loop involves managing your army, recruiting over 200 unique Warlord characters, and capturing kingdoms in a turn-based overworld to ultimately unify Ransei.
- Pokémon Link System: Warlords have a specific Warrior Skill and a perfect link with one Pokémon type. They can link with other Pokémon, but their effectiveness is capped based on compatibility.
- Extensive Post-Game Episodes: After the main story, numerous side episodes unlock, featuring different Warlords, specific Pokémon teams, and unique victory conditions that greatly expand the game's lifespan.
