About This Game
Introduction: This is an official Nintendo DS game, a 2009 remake of the 1999 Game Boy Color title Pokemon Silver. It is part of the fourth generation of Pokemon games. The story is set in the Johto region, with the player later traveling to the neighboring Kanto region from the original games. The visual style is a full 3D-overworld, 2D-sprite presentation that was standard for DS Pokemon titles, representing a major graphical upgrade from the original.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The player chooses one of three starter Pokemon from Professor Elm: Chikorita (Grass), Cyndaquil (Fire), or Totodile (Water). The game features the modern Physical/Special split introduced in Generation IV, which is a core mechanical update from the original. The difficulty is moderate and considered very Nuzlocke-friendly due to the large variety of Pokemon available across two regions and a generally balanced level curve. It includes a real-time day/night cycle and days of the week with specific events.
Key Features:
- Two Full Regions: After completing the Johto Pokemon League, the entire Kanto region from Pokemon Red and Blue opens up for exploration, culminating in a battle against the original protagonist, Red.
- Pokemon Following the Player: The first Pokemon in the player's party follows behind them on the overworld, a feature carried over from Pokemon Yellow and expanded here.
- The Pokewalker: The game was bundled with a pedometer accessory that allowed players to transfer a Pokemon to it, gain experience by walking, and find items and wild Pokemon.
