About This Game
Introduction: This is an official Nintendo DS game, not a ROM hack or bootleg. "Pokemon Fushigi No Dungeon - Ao No Kyuujotai" is the Japanese title for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, an expanded version of Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness. The story is set not in a traditional region but in a world populated solely by Pokemon, centered around a guild on the beach. The visual style uses 2D sprites in an isometric perspective for towns and top-down tile-based exploration in the mystery dungeons.
Gameplay & Mechanics: You begin by taking a personality quiz to determine your player character Pokemon from a pool of 19 starters, including all from Generations 1-4 except for legendaries and pseudos. You then choose a partner from the remaining pool. The game is a roguelike dungeon crawler, not a traditional Pokemon RPG, so concepts like Nuzlocke or the Physical/Special split do not apply. The core mechanics involve turn-based movement through randomly generated dungeons, managing hunger, and using items and moves with PP. The difficulty is notably higher than the main series, with permanent defeat sending you back to town without your items and money if you don't have a Reviver Seed.
Key Features:
- Expanded Story Content: Adds five new special episodes that play as side stories focusing on key guild members and story characters like Wigglytuff and Grovyle.
- Increased Pokemon Roster: Over 490 Pokemon are available to recruit into your team, up from the earlier versions, including all legendaries from Generations 1-4.
- New Dungeons and Mechanics: Introduces the Spinda's Cafe for move tutoring and item mixing, along with new exclusive dungeons like the Sky Stairway and Shaymin Village.
