About This Game
Introduction: This is an official Nintendo DS game, released only in Japan in 2009. It is a spin-off title in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, specifically a remake of the Game Boy Advance title Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team. The story is set in a world where humans have vanished and the player, transformed into a Pokémon, joins a rescue team to explore randomly generated dungeons and help other Pokémon in distress. The visual style uses 2D sprites on 3D-rendered backgrounds.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The game begins with a personality quiz to determine your starter Pokémon, which can be one of sixteen options including Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, and Eevee. You then choose a partner from the remaining pool. The core gameplay is a turn-based, grid-based dungeon crawler. There is no traditional Pokémon battle system; instead, moves have limited PP and are used in tactical positional combat. The difficulty is inherent to the roguelike genre, with permanent fainting resulting in the loss of all items and money if the entire party wipes. It does not include mechanics like the Physical/Special split or Fairy type, as it uses the simplified Mystery Dungeon mechanics.
Key Features:
- Enhanced presentation with dual-screen functionality, animated cutscenes, and full touch-screen controls for menu and movement.
- Expanded roster with over 490 Pokémon available, including many from the fourth generation not present in the original GBA games.
- New story episodes and the "Sky Jukebox" feature, allowing players to listen to music from across the Mystery Dungeon series.
