About This Game

Pokemon Light Platinum DS Box Art

Introduction: Pokémon Light Platinum DS is a fan-made ROM hack, not an official Nintendo DS title. It is a port and expansion of the well-known GBA hack Pokémon Light Platinum, which was originally built on a Pokémon Ruby base. This DS version runs on a modified DS engine, placing you in the new region of Zhery and later Lauren. The visual style attempts to mimic the official DS games, using sprites from the Diamond & Pearl era and featuring a world map that spans two continents.

Gameplay & Mechanics: You choose a starter from the fourth generation: Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup. The hack includes Pokémon from Generations I through IV. It retains the physical/special split introduced in Generation IV. The difficulty is higher than a standard game, with stronger Gym Leaders and a more demanding Elite Four, making it a solid choice for players seeking a challenge. The game does not include the Fairy type or Mega Evolution, as it is based on pre-Generation V mechanics.

Key Features:

  • Two Full Regions: The adventure takes you through the Zhery and Lauren regions, effectively doubling the main storyline content and Gym count.
  • World Championship Tournament: After becoming Champion, you can compete in a special tournament featuring Gym Leaders and Champions from all previous official regions up to Sinnoh.
  • DS-Style Presentation: The hack incorporates a pseudo-3D overworld, a touch-screen menu interface, and animated Pokémon sprites in battle to closely resemble the authentic DS experience.

As a complex fan project, the DS version can be prone to bugs and occasional stability issues not found in the original GBA hack.
