About This Game

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - Blue Rescue Team (Supremacy) (EU) Box Art

Introduction: This is an official Nintendo DS title, a localized version of the Japanese release. It is not a ROM hack or a bootleg. The game is a core entry in the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon spin-off series, where you play as a human transformed into a Pokémon. The story is set in a world populated solely by Pokémon, with the primary hub being Pokémon Square. The visual style uses 2D sprites and environments, distinct from the mainline Pokémon games of the era.

Gameplay & Mechanics: You begin by taking a personality quiz to determine your Pokémon form, with options including Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Meowth, Psyduck, Machop, Cubone, Eevee, and Skitty. You then choose a partner from the remaining pool. The gameplay is a roguelike dungeon crawler, with turn-based movement and attacks in randomly generated dungeons. It is not designed as a "Nuzlocke friendly" game in the traditional sense due to its permanent fainting mechanics and recruitment system. Key mechanics are specific to the Mystery Dungeon series, such as hunger, item management, and recruiting defeated Pokémon to your rescue team. It does not feature mechanics from the main series like the Physical/Special split or Mega Evolution.

Key Features:

  • Rescue Team-Based Story: The core loop involves taking on rescue and escort missions in dungeons to help other Pokémon, building your team's reputation to uncover the mystery behind the natural disasters affecting the world.
  • Extensive Pokémon Recruitment: Virtually every Pokémon from Generations I through III can be recruited to join your team, which then resides at your base camp, allowing for deep team customization.
  • Dungeon Variety and Permadeath: If your entire team faints in a dungeon, you lose all items and money not stored in a bank, creating high-stakes exploration and resource management.
The Nintendo DS version features enhanced graphics, additional dungeons, and the ability to connect with the Game Boy Advance counterpart, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team.
