About This Game
Introduction: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team is an official Nintendo DS title released in 2006. It is part of the Mystery Dungeon spin-off series, where you play as a human transformed into a Pokémon. The story is set in a world populated solely by Pokémon, with no specific human region like Kanto or Johto. The visual style uses 2D sprites in a top-down, grid-based dungeon layout.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The game begins with a personality quiz to determine your starter Pokémon from a pool including Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Pikachu, Meowth, Psyduck, Machop, Cubone, Eevee, and Skitty. You then choose a partner from the remaining options. The core gameplay is a roguelike dungeon crawler, distinct from mainline titles, with permadeath for that dungeon attempt if your team is defeated. It is not designed as a "Nuzlocke friendly" game in the traditional sense due to its inherent high difficulty and random generation. It does not include mechanics from the core series like the Physical/Special split or Fairy types, as it operates on its own turn-based, tile-movement system.
Key Features:
- Procedurally Generated Dungeons: Every floor of a dungeon is randomly generated, ensuring no two explorations are identical, with layouts, items, and enemy placements changing each time.
- Rescue Team Management: You run a rescue team base, taking on jobs from a bulletin board to save Pokémon, deliver items, or escort clients through dungeons for rewards and rank progression.
- Story-Driven Recruitment: Defeated wild Pokémon can sometimes ask to join your team, allowing you to build a large roster from the first four generations to use in future dungeon explorations.
