About This Game
Introduction: Pokémon Ranger: Hikari no Kiseki is the official Japanese title for the third and final core game in the Pokémon Ranger series for the Nintendo DS. It is not a ROM hack or bootleg. The game is set in the Oblivia region, a series of islands, and follows the story of a new Ranger tasked with investigating the mysterious "Miracle of the Sea." The visual style uses the DS's 3D capabilities for environments and field navigation, with 2D sprites for characters and Pokémon.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The game completely departs from the turn-based battle and capture system of mainline Pokémon titles. Instead, players use the DS stylus to draw loops around wild Pokémon to capture them temporarily as "Field Moves." There are no starter Pokémon in the traditional sense; your primary partner is a Plusle or Minun. The difficulty is tied to mastering the capture mechanics, which require precise stylus control against moving targets, making it unsuitable for standard Nuzlocke rules. Key mechanics include the Capture Styler, which levels up to allow for capturing stronger Pokémon, and the use of temporary partner Pokémon to solve puzzles and navigate obstacles in the field.
Key Features:
- Unique stylus-based capture system that replaces traditional Pokémon battles.
- An episodic story structure where you complete missions to progress the narrative and protect the region.
- The ability to call upon captured Pokémon to use their abilities, like Cut or Rock Smash, in the field to interact with the environment.
