About This Game

Pokemon: Silberne Edition SoulSilver Box Art

Introduction: "Pokemon: Silberne Edition SoulSilver" is the official German-language release of Pokemon SoulSilver Version for the Nintendo DS. It is a direct remake of the 1999 Game Boy Color title Pokemon Silver, updated with the graphical and mechanical standards of the fourth generation. The game is set in the Johto region, with the player later gaining access to the original Kanto region, offering a massive post-game adventure. The visual style uses the DS's 2D sprite-based engine with 3D overworld effects.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The player chooses one of three starter Pokemon from Professor Elm: Chikorita (Grass), Cyndaquil (Fire), or Totodile (Water). The game features the modern Physical/Special split introduced in Generation IV, which fundamentally changes move categorization. It includes a real-time day/night cycle and days of the week with specific events. The difficulty curve is considered moderate, with a significant spike at the Elite Four, making it suitable for standard playthroughs but not inherently designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. The Fairy type and Mega Evolution are not present, as they were introduced in later generations.

Key Features:

  • The Pokéwalker Accessory: The game was bundled with a Pokéwalker pedometer, allowing players to transfer a Pokemon to the device to gain experience and find items while walking in the real world.
  • Pokemon Following the Player: A defining feature is that the first Pokemon in your party follows behind your character sprite in the overworld, with unique animations for each species.
  • Expanded Post-Game: After defeating the Johto League, the entire Kanto region from the first generation opens up, featuring eight more Gyms, a final battle against Red on Mt. Silver, and the Battle Frontier for end-game challenges.
The German localization, "Silberne Edition," is a direct translation of the English version with no gameplay alterations.
