About This Game
Introduction: This is an official Nintendo DS game, a 2009 remake of the 1999 Game Boy Color title Pokemon Silver. It is part of the fourth generation of Pokemon games. The story is set in the Johto region, with the player later traveling to the original Kanto region, offering two full regions to explore. The visual style updates the original 2D sprites to the DS's pseudo-3D environments and detailed sprite work, while retaining the classic top-down perspective.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The player chooses one of three starter Pokemon from Professor Elm: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile. The game uses the modernized mechanics of the fourth generation, including the Physical/Special split for moves, which was introduced in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl. It features a real-time day/night cycle and days of the week with specific events. The difficulty is considered moderate and well-paced, making it a popular choice for Nuzlocke challenges due to its expansive world and variety of Pokemon.
Key Features:
- The Pokemon Following Mechanic: Your lead Pokemon follows behind you in the overworld, a feature first introduced in Pokemon Yellow and fully realized here.
- The Pokéwalker Accessory: The game bundled a physical pedometer that allowed players to transfer a Pokemon to it, gain experience by walking, and find items and wild Pokemon.
- Post-Game Content: After defeating the Johto Elite Four, the entire Kanto region from the first generation opens up, culminating in a battle against the original protagonist, Red, on Mt. Silver.
