About This Game
Introduction: Pokémon Torouze (J) is an official Nintendo DS puzzle game released only in Japan in 2005. It is not a mainline RPG but a spin-off title focused on a unique block-matching puzzle mechanic. The story setting involves helping Professor Oak organize his cluttered Pokémon data by solving puzzles, with no traditional region to explore. The visual style uses 2D sprites for the puzzle interface and features simple, colorful menus.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The core gameplay involves a falling-block puzzle where players must match three or more identical Pokémon icons to clear them from the board. Clearing icons fills a meter, and when full, the player can capture the Pokémon featured in that stage. There are no starter Pokémon choices, battles, or a difficulty level in the RPG sense; the challenge is purely puzzle-based. It does not incorporate RPG mechanics like the Physical/Special split, types, or a day/night cycle. The game is not designed for Nuzlocke runs.
Key Features:
- Puzzle-Based Pokémon Collection: The primary method of obtaining Pokémon is through successful puzzle completion, a significant departure from the catching and battling of the main series.
- Multiplayer and Download Play: The game supports local multiplayer versus matches for two players using a single game card via the DS's Download Play feature.
- Pokédex Completion Goal: The game's overarching objective is to complete a Pokédex by clearing puzzles to "capture" all 386 Pokémon available from the first three generations, providing a clear completionist target.
