About This Game
Introduction: Pokémon Trozei! is an official Nintendo DS puzzle game released in 2005 in Japan and 2006 internationally, known as Pokémon Link! in Europe. It is not a traditional RPG but a tile-matching puzzle game. The story is set in a futuristic facility run by the Phantom Trozei Beasts, where the player, as an agent for the Secret Battle Organization (SBO), must rescue stolen Pokémon by solving puzzles. The visual style is bright, cartoonish, and uses 2D sprites for the Pokémon icons.
Gameplay & Mechanics: There are no starter Pokémon, gyms, or a traditional overworld. The core gameplay involves clearing a grid of Pokémon icons by making matches of four or more identical icons in a row or column, which "trozeis" them. The game is divided into stages where you must clear a set number of specific Pokémon within a time limit or before the screen fills. Difficulty is based on puzzle-solving speed and chain reactions, not RPG mechanics like Nuzlocke runs. It does not incorporate mechanics from the main series like the Physical/Special split or Mega Evolution, as it exists in its own spin-off genre.
Key Features:
- Chain and Combo System: The primary skill is creating chain reactions by making matches that cause new matches to occur, which is essential for high scores and clearing tougher stages.
- Endless Challenge Modes: Beyond the story, the game includes modes like Endless Trozei and Battle Trozei for continuous play and boss battles against the Phantom Trozei Beasts.
- Massive Pokémon Roster: The game features all 386 Pokémon from the first three generations, requiring players to recognize sprites quickly to make effective matches.
