About This Game

Pokemon - Version Blanche (F) Box Art

Introduction: Pokémon - Version Blanche (F) is the official French-language release of Pokémon White Version for the Nintendo DS. It is the fifth generation's paired release, set in the modern, urban Unova region. The game features fully animated Pokémon sprites during battles and a distinct visual separation between the eastern and western halves of the map, which are version-exclusive in the post-game.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The player chooses one of three starters: the Grass-type Snivy, the Fire-type Tepig, or the Water-type Oshawott. The game's difficulty is standard for the main series, with a notable spike for the final boss battle. It introduced the core mechanics of Generation V, including the complete Physical/Special split (carried over from Gen IV), reusable TMs, and triple and rotation battles. The Fairy type and Mega Evolution are not present, as they were introduced in Generation VI. A dynamic day/night cycle and seasons that change monthly affect wild encounters and available areas.

Key Features:

  • Entirely New Regional Pokédex: Until the post-game, the Unova Pokédex contains only 156 brand new Pokémon, with no returning species from previous generations.
  • Deep Narrative Focus: The story heavily involves the ideological conflict with Team Plasma and the moral question of Pokémon training, presented through more frequent story events and cutscenes.
  • Post-Game Area: After the main story, a large section of eastern Unova (in White Version) opens up, allowing the player to catch many Pokémon from previous generations and challenge older Gym Leaders.
This version represents the peak of 2D sprite-based Pokémon games on the DS before the shift to 3D models.
