About This Game
Introduction: Pokémon Version Perle (FireX) (F) is a fan-made ROM hack of the Game Boy Advance game Pokémon FireRed, designed to be played on a Nintendo DS via a flashcart or emulator. It is not an official Nintendo DS title. The hack is set in the Kanto region, but with a significantly altered narrative and visual style that incorporates elements and sprites from the Pokémon Diamond & Pearl era, giving it a distinct, hybrid appearance.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The game retains the core mechanics of Generation III, meaning it does not include the Physical/Special split introduced in Generation IV. It does not feature the Fairy type or Mega Evolution. The starter Pokémon are the traditional Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle. The difficulty is notably increased compared to the base FireRed, with tougher trainer battles and Gym Leaders, making it less forgiving for casual play but potentially appealing for a challenge. It is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke hack, but the heightened difficulty could suit that playstyle.
Key Features:
- Expanded Pokédex and New Encounters: The hack integrates many Pokémon from Generations IV and V into the Kanto wild encounter tables and trainer teams, allowing players to catch species like Gible and Lucario much earlier than in official games.
- Altered Story and Characters: The narrative diverges from the standard Kanto journey, featuring new rival characters and modified dialogue, though the core objective of collecting Gym Badges remains.
- Graphical Overhaul and Bugs: The hack uses DS-era sprites and tilesets, creating a unique visual blend. However, as a complex hack of an older engine, it can suffer from graphical glitches, occasional soft-locks, and untranslated or garbled text in some sections.
