About This Game

Pokemon Bronze (female version) Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon Bronze (Female Version) is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Pokemon Crystal for the Game Boy Color. It is not an official Nintendo release. The hack modifies the base game to create a new adventure set in the Johto region, with a visual style identical to the original GBC titles, utilizing the same sprite work and color palette.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The game begins with a choice of the three standard Johto starters: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile. Its difficulty is comparable to the original Pokemon Crystal, making it suitable for a standard playthrough but not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. Mechanically, it retains the Generation II framework, meaning there is no Physical/Special split, no Fairy type, and no Mega Evolution. The core change is the player character, who is locked to the female protagonist, Kris, from the start. The day/night cycle from the base game remains fully functional.

Key Features:

  • Locked Female Protagonist: The game forces the player to begin as Kris, offering an alternative perspective to the typical male-start journey in the original titles.
  • Enhanced Character Dialogue: Some NPC dialogue and story text is altered to better reflect the female protagonist's journey, though the core plot points remain unchanged.
  • Minor Script Tweaks: The hack includes small quality-of-life edits and bug fixes from the original Crystal ROM, though it does not overhaul major systems like reusable TMs.
This hack provides a straightforward, nostalgic experience for players seeking a classic Johto adventure with a predefined protagonist.
