About This Game

Pokemon The Third Element Box Art

Introduction: Pokemon The Third Element is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokemon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance. It is set in the new region of Korros, which features a mix of standard routes and more complex, maze-like areas. The visual style uses the standard GBA tiles and sprites from the Generation III era, with some custom sprite work for new characters and a few key locations.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three starter Pokemon: Charmander, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle. It is built on the pre-Physical/Special split engine of FireRed, meaning moves are categorized as Physical or Special based on their type, not their individual characteristics. The Fairy type is not present. The difficulty is notably higher than the base game, with tougher trainer AI and higher-leveled wild Pokemon, making it less immediately friendly for a casual Nuzlocke run without significant grinding.

Key Features:

  • A completely new storyline set in Korros, involving a conflict with the criminal team Team Fusion and the mystery of a legendary third element.
  • The inclusion of all Pokemon from Generations I through III, with some available earlier in the campaign than in official games.
  • Several quality-of-life improvements from later hacks, such as the Running Shoes being usable indoors and the Reusable TMs mechanic.
The game is a complete adventure that provides a more challenging experience for players familiar with the original Kanto journey.
