About This Game

Pokemon Z2 (silver hack) Box Art

Introduction: This is a fan-made ROM hack of the official Pokemon Silver for the Game Boy Color. The hack is set in the Johto region, following the original story of a new trainer from New Bark Town. The visual style remains faithful to the original GBC aesthetic, with no major graphical overhauls to the tiles or sprites.

Gameplay & Mechanics: The player's starter choices are the traditional Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. The difficulty is largely unchanged from the base game, making it standard for a casual playthrough but not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke challenge. As a hack of a Generation II game, it retains the original mechanics: there is no Physical/Special split, the Fairy type is not present, and the day/night cycle from the original Silver is fully functional. Key mechanical changes are minimal, focusing more on Pokemon availability than system alterations.

Key Features:

  • Expanded Pokemon Roster: The primary feature is the inclusion of Pokemon from Generations III and IV, such as Ralts, Bagon, and Gible, integrated into the Johto wild encounters and trainer teams.
  • Increased Difficulty in Key Battles: Some major trainer battles, including Gym Leaders and the Elite Four, feature updated teams with higher levels and the newly added Pokemon to provide a fresh challenge.
  • Minor Quality-of-Life Tweaks: Includes adjustments like the removal of trade evolution requirements for certain Pokemon, allowing them to evolve via level-up or item use instead.
The hack offers a familiar Johto journey with a revised Pokedex, providing new team-building options for players who have mastered the original.
