About This Game

Meowths Adventure (pokemon hack) Box Art

Introduction: Meowth's Adventure is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokémon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance, not the original Game Boy. The game is set in the Kanto region, but with a significant narrative twist. You play as Team Rocket's Meowth, embarking on a quest to prove your worth and become the boss after Giovanni's disappearance. The visual style uses FireRed's engine, so it retains the Generation 3 aesthetic with some custom sprite work for the protagonist and key characters.

Gameplay & Mechanics: Your starter is fixed as Meowth, which begins at level 5 and knows Pay Day. The game's difficulty is generally standard, though the early game can be challenging due to your single, low-level Pokémon. It does not implement the Physical/Special split from Generation 4, nor does it add the Fairy type. Key mechanical changes are narrative rather than systemic; for instance, you interact with the world from the perspective of a Pokémon, with other characters often commenting on this unusual situation.

Key Features:

  • Protagonist Role Reversal: The core premise of playing as a Meowth working its way through the Kanto gym challenge is the hack's defining feature, offering a completely different story context.
  • Altered Storyline and Dialogue: All story events and character dialogues are rewritten to fit the new narrative, with you often being mistaken for a wild Pokémon or facing skepticism from Trainers and Gym Leaders.
  • Limited Pokémon Availability: Your party is restricted to Pokémon that a Team Rocket member or a rogue Meowth might reasonably obtain, focusing on species commonly associated with the villainous team or found in urban Kanto areas.
The hack is a complete story experience but is known to have some bugs and may not be fully polished in its later sections. It provides a short, novel twist on the traditional Kanto journey for players seeking a different narrative angle.
