About This Game
Introduction: Pokémon: Next Generation is a fan-made ROM hack of Pokémon FireRed for the Game Boy Advance, not the original Game Boy. It is set in the new region of Nexus, which features a mix of new and familiar locations. The visual style uses FireRed's engine with custom tiles, sprites, and maps to create its own world.
Gameplay & Mechanics: The hack offers a choice of three new starter Pokémon: Shinx (Electric), Gible (Dragon/Ground), and Riolu (Fighting). It is built on a modified FireRed engine and includes the Physical/Special split from Generation IV, but does not add the Fairy type or Mega Evolution. The difficulty is higher than the base game, with stronger trainer teams and adjusted level curves, making it a solid choice for players seeking a more challenging experience. It is not specifically designed as a Nuzlocke hack, but the increased difficulty can accommodate that playstyle.
Key Features:
- A completely new region, Nexus, with eight new Gyms and a custom storyline.
- A expanded Pokédex featuring Pokémon from Generations I through IV, all available within the main adventure.
- Quality-of-life improvements from later games, such as reusable TMs and the running shoes being usable indoors.
